Dear Friends,
You've heard the phrase, "It's time for a change", and I agree, we need to make a turn to the right! To a stronger, more energetic, conservative voice in the Nevada Senate.
The best idea out of the recent Special Session is a Legislative Spending Cap. Nevada's growth in state government spending has exceeded 75 percent since 2003. Senator Raggio has already said he opposes government spending caps.
You may have heard that Nevada has a statutory spending cap, but NRS 353.213 only puts a spending cap on the budget that the Governor submits to the Legislature. This is not a spending cap on the legislature. The legislature is still able to add 'pork' to the budget each session with these simple words "Contains appropriation not included in Executive Budget." You may want to do a search on the appropriation bills of previous sessions by going to the legislative website www.leg.state.nv.us You may also be interested in an analysis of the budgets from past years and the runaway spending that has caused our current budget crisis at http://www.beers4nevada.org/.
A strong economy requires a good education system. As a State Senator, my goal will be to push education dollars to the classroom freeing dollars from the layers of bureaucracy in the Department of Education, reduce the constant testing merry-go-round, and create more technical schools, so every child has a choice. As home school mom, a former school board member, and legislator, I will bring a unique perspective to education in the Nevada Senate.
A strong economy requires a friendly business climate to a world wide audience. As a member of the Senate I will work to eliminate the Income Payroll Tax to stimulate the creation of jobs in Nevada. Senator Raggio helped create and voted for the Income Payroll Tax in 2003. We should expand the opportunities for the development of alternative energy sources, without turning it into a government giveaway. We should also work to get more education dollars out of the administrative bureaucracy into the classroom and expand technical schools, so every student has a choice.
I've taken a "No New Taxes Pledge", Senator Raggio says he doesn't believe in pledges which is code for, "Don't Make A Promise You Can't Keep".
I am chair of "We The People", which collected signatures for the Nevada Property Tax Reform Initiative, fought court challenges to keep it off the ballot in November, and led the way to defend the Nevada Constitution in 2003, against an unconstitutional tax passed by the legislature. You may be interested in the latest attack on the initiative by the Teacher's Union that was politically motivated to help my opponent.
I've spent the last 10 years walking the District, forming relationships and representing you, the taxpaying voters. Together, we can turn Nevada around to a brighter future.
It is time for a change, join me on August 12 for a change in Senate District 3.
Vote Sharron Angle!
